All Granite Restaurant Table Tops are Not the Same!

When a restaurant owner considers purchasing granite restaurant tables, they may start by reviewing various granite table tops online.  Even though two granite table tops may look the same in an online picture, they may be constructed very differently.  It is important to know what you are buying, to ensure you get the quality of granite restaurant table that you pay for. This article covers three types of granite table tops from most expensive to least expensive.

1. Solid granite table tops

Obviously solid granite is just what the name implies.  The table top is constructed of all granite.  With solid granite tables, usually a base plate of plywood is attached to the bottom of the table with glue, so that the base can be screwed into the table using self- tapping sheet metal screws.  For a solid granite table top, pay special attention to the overall table height, which should not exceed 30” or be below 29”.  The overall table height is identified by adding together the heights of the table top, base plate, and table base.  Solid granite table tops are the most expensive type of granite table top for restaurants.

2. Veneer solid granite

Veneer solid granite table tops are manufactured by placing a layer of thin granite over wood such as plywood.  This type of granite table top has some advantages.  First, the top of the table is manufactured from real granite.  Second, instead of glue, there is plywood already on the bottom of the table where the table base can be screwed in and securely attached.  Third, a veneer solid granite table is also easier to move around since it is lighter weight.  A veneer solid granite table is less expensive than solid granite, and more expensive than faux granite.

3. Faux granite

Faux granite tables are made by using some type of material that looks like granite.  This would include painting, laminating or using granite tiles.  If table tops constructed of these materials can still bring in the same amount of sales in a particular restaurant, faux granite tables can be an excellent choice.  This is the least expensive option, and still allows a restaurant to achieve the granite table top look.
